# Powerful Patterns 2: The Negative Powers of 5

## There are many numerical patterns to find in mathematics! The one on this Web page is about the negative powers of 5.

Observe the *negative powers of ***5** in decimals below:

5^{-1} = 0.2

5^{-2} = 0.04

5^{-3} = 0.008

5^{-4} = 0.0016

5^{-5} = 0.00032

5^{-6} = 0.000064

5^{-7} = 0.0000128

There's a function for this pattern & have you noticed that each decimal is a *power of ***2** divided by a *power of ***10**?

5^{-n} = 2^{n}/10^{n}
